The Wake-Up Call!
June 27, '25
June 27 is a date that will stick with me until I can confidently give my boss the middle finger.
Let me tell you how it all went down...
I walked into work as usual, but my supervisor waltzed in half an hour late, which was definitely out of the ordinary. He gathered everyone and ordered us to stop what we were doing to clean the workspace. This was unusual, but we complied. While tidying up, I overheard him on the phone with someone I suspected was a higher-up in the company.
I didn’t catch every detail, but I heard something about some of us being sent home, which happens occasionally based on the day’s work.
Eventually, the other supervisors came in, and not long after, we were all called into the office.
"You’ve been terminated."
The silence that followed was deafening.
"That's right. Your performance has not met expectations, and for the past few days, you haven't been delivering." The lead supervisor’s words hung in the air.
But honestly, I wasn’t surprised. Normally, I would’ve been shocked, but not today.
Just three days earlier, I had vacated my old apartment, and now this? It seemed almost humorous from a distance, but up close, it felt catastrophic—a feeling I pushed aside.
So, now what?
Just like that, my job was gone. I have ambitious goals to achieve by the end of the year. I was beginning to find stability, cut distractions and save on commutes but it all felt in vain.
My job was my lifeline, and I hadn’t yet figured out how to monetize my side hustle.
Simply put, I was in a precarious position.
When did it all change?
5:36 AM!
That’s when the stakes were high for us.
At that specific time, the Director was busy deciding our fate while most of us were still asleep: “Since Kamakis' team can't do the job well, I have decided to terminate it.” Not the exact phrasing, but you get the picture.
So, what did I do next?
I changed out of my work clothes, ready to head home and plot my next moves. Before leaving the premises, my disappointed colleagues and I gathered to share some laughs about the situation—ironically, it turned out to be a bonding moment.
The supervisor joined us, and the way he spoke gave us hope that we might actually get our jobs back, which we eventually did. Ironically, he, too, was facing termination, and it was his responsibility to advocate for our return, which he successfully did.
But...
June 27 is my inflection point—a definitive wake-up call for me and my friends.
What this means is clear: I'm on a timeline to quit this day job. I believe there will be another scenario in the future that will lead to our termination for real.
To prevent that...
I’m building my online writing side business alongside my day job.
This newsletter and a 180-day calendar I created is how I keep myself accountable while I learn, build, monetize and scale my writing business to at least $3000 by the end of the year.
Why $3k, you might ask?
One, this is my freedom number. To put it another way, it's the amount of money I need to invest in coaching, a better laptop and cover my bills for the next six months while I scale to the magical $10k/month.
My strategy is simple too.
I am working on a 2 90-day splints.
1st splint is for Learning and building an audience to atleast 1k on X. 2nd for monetizing and going full time.
And as for my daily routine...
▪︎ 2 hours in the morning writing and publishing.
▪︎ 2 hours in the evening studying and networking.
▪︎ Working during the day to cover my bills.
I know this journey will be tough and messy, just like anything worth doing in life, but what’s the alternative? Stay trapped in a job that I don’t truly enjoy and live in constant fear of being fired?
Absolutely not.
I have 180 days to fast-track my journey to freedom, and I’ll share everything with you three times a week in my newsletter.
And the goal is crystal clear:
Build digital leverage, break free from the 9-5 grind, and finally join the NEW Rich. (My Newsletter Banner speaks for itself:)
So, if you’re reading this, you can expect tips in areas I’m eager to improve and those I’m passionate about, including:
▪︎ Personal growth
▪︎ Copywriting
▪︎ Marketing
▪︎ Branding
▪︎ Writing
And everything else I’m learning, unlearning, and implementing as I work to quit my day job for good.
Digital freedom is the ultimate goal in 2025
Freedom of time, work, income and location.
